ABOUT MS. T

Hello and WELCOME to Mrs. T’s Tutoring Services website! My name is Portia Twitty and I am highly passionate about high-quality education! I currently hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology (B.A.) from Georgia State University (2013) and a master's degree in Secondary English at Western Governors University (M.A.). I am currently an English-certified teacher with Fulton County School Systems. I have been operating my tutoring business for almost 5 years. I was a Homeschool Pod director in South Fulton, Georgia during 2020-2021 and offered a Summer Camp in the Summer of 2020 and 2021. I have been teaching in the South Fulton community for over 8 years. I began my teaching career as a day-to-day substitute teacher, working primarily in high schools. Less than a month into my experience as a substitute, I was offered a long-term assignment at Wolf Creek Elementary school as a Kindergarten (Special Needs) teacher. I fell completely in love with my role as a teacher and my students. A true love story was formed when I entered into my purpose as an Educator. I have had the pleasure of serving students in classrooms of many different subjects, and grades. I have worked, long-term, as a high school elective teacher, as well as a core-class teacher. I have served in a range of classes, which I conducted each for over a 6-month period: Kindergarten (Special Needs); High School Early Childhood Development 3; Food, Nutrition, and Wellness; 10th grade Literature; and 11th grade Algebra II (SEC). I currently operate a third year program for Fulton County Schools called, Panther Academy, serving under-credited students at Langston Hughes High School; as well as teaching several 10th grade literature courses. I started my business less than three months into the pandemic, and I have intentionally created well-versed and comprehensive services to equip each child I have the honor of serving with everything they may need and more to succeed at the next level. I created this business to better support my community, and to be directly a part of the change I would like to see in this country in regard to educational equality. My purpose is to help children through their educational process, through top-tier educational services, while providing authentic results in their overall improvement and evolution. Before I became an educator, I was a full-time model and stay-at-home mother. I began substitute teaching to help further my modeling career (as crazy as this must sound)! I wanted to travel to more places, in an effort to sign a modeling contract; internationally. It was not until I traveled to Milan, Italy to meet with an agent that I realized that God had Bigger, and Better plans for my life; being I never signed that contract overseas. It is from a passionate place in my soul to fight for equality within our school systems, and from a burning desire within me to provide genuine support and show immediate concern for the quality of education in marginalized communities, that I created Mrs. T’s Virtual Tutoring Services. Mrs. T’s Virtual Tutoring Services was founded in May 2020 on the premise that all children should have equal access and experience to high-quality education.

MS. T'S VISION & MISSION STATEMENT
When COVID-19 closed the schools in Georgia, in March 2020, I witnessed first-hand the tremendous toll it took on my own child’s mental health and educational progress. I also witnessed the negative effects of my students having to abruptly end face-to-face learning and transition into virtual learning; especially in the last three months of the semester, which for any educator and student serves as a critical time period to reach monumental benchmarks before going into the next school year.

Unfortunately, when the schools closed, the long-term substitutes did not get to continue to conduct their courses via virtual learning. I lost communication with my students, and was completely and utterly devastated! Working with students has truly become my life’s purpose throughout the past decade. So, I decided to act! It was important to me that the students I worked with previously, and the students in my community, receive the assistance they needed to pass on to the next grade level or graduate.
Mrs. T’s Virtual Tutoring Services officially launched in May 2020 to support this Mission and has since introduced various new services that cover a wide range of educational challenges many students were facing during and after the pandemic. Mrs. T’s Virtual Tutoring Services introduced Mrs. T’s Homeschool Pod in August 2020, and this program was by far the most aggressive at being at the forefront of providing face-to-face support and instruction to public-school children through their virtual learning while pinpointing their struggling content areas.
This company strongly believes that the pandemic was not the time to let our children get behind in their studies; yet was the time to be increasingly innovative, creative, progressive, and authentic within our educational system. Most aspects of life have been intensely reformed due to technology, making life easier for most; which should be the case for providing high-quality education for all children. Our children NEED education to show up in their lives differently than it has in the past few decades. Our country needs to reshape the very real systematic segregation and discrimination infused within the education system, which does promote racial and class oppression in later generations.
Basically, we have been needed to do things differently, as a country, in regard to educational equality. Let us all take the opportunity to be a part of rebuilding a fair education system that supports the success of every single child in this country.
I do not know the completion of what this change may look like, or what exact actions we will need to take to get there. Yet, consider that all it takes is a VISION that things could be better experienced, to begin that very experience, one child at a time. And that is the Vision of Mrs. T’s Virtual Tutoring Services; to begin this change, one brick at a time, one child at a time, one moment at a time. We must know that the change we fight for today, our children and grandchildren will live out tomorrow. The work we lack to do falls on future generations to come. Let us do our work, as homage to the ancestors in which we live off the backs of; and in efforts to create a better future for our children and equal opportunity for us all.
